Finally Sony re-introduced their latest mirrorless camera, named A7R IV. This camera has a 61-megapixel full-frame BSI-CMOS sensor with 15 stops of dynamic range. This is a new breakthrough from Sony where since 2015, they have not used sensors with large pixels.
Sony A7R IV will be released at a price of 49 million. This is expensive but not haphazard. Inside is a hybrid AF system with 567 PDAF and 425 contrast detection points, and 74% frame coverage. The camera can shoot at 10 fps with continuous AF up to 68 photos.
Like its predecessor, the a7R IV has a built-in 5-axis image stabilization, which can reduce shocks by 5.5 stops. The A7R IV also has the same Bionz X processor and a 1.44M-dot touch screen like the Mark III. There is also a 5.76M-dot EVF, dual UHS-II card slots and USB-C. This camera also has Wi-Fi 802.11ac plus Bluetooth and NFC.
Although in terms of body design, the A7R IV still looks similar to its predecessor. However, Sony said they had improved several aspects such as resistance to dust and moisture. The back of the camera has also been upgraded, where now the A7R IV has a 1.44-million dot type 3-inch type touch screen LCD which is 1.5 times faster.
The LCD can also be tilted up to 107 degrees up and 41 degrees down. The electronic viewfinder has experienced significant changes. Now Sony pairs a new OLED Tru-Finder with 5.76 million dots and can refresh up to 120 frames per second.
Furthermore, 1.3-centimeter (0.5 type) UXGA OLED with 0.78x magnification, 100% frame coverage and "High" quality mode, which promises a sharper and natural viewfinder experience with reduced moiré and "jaggies." The eyepiece window is coated with fluorine to help repel dust, dirt and oil.
The Sony A7R IV has the world's first 61-megapixel full-frame image sensor. Specifically, this sensor is an Exmore R CMOS sensor with 62.5 megapixels with 61.0 effective megapixels. This sensor offers an original ISO range of 100 to 32,000, which can be expanded to low ISO 50 and high ISO 102,400.
The image sensor, paired with the LSI front-end and the latest BIONZ X image processor from Sony, is capable of processing 16-bit images which are then output up to 14 bits. This combination will provide clear colors from the Sony A7R IV photos.
Looking at the aspect ratio options, the A7R IV offers a 3: 2 standard (9,504 x 6,336 images) and a 16: 9 aspect ratio (9,504 x 5,344 - 51 megapixels). Sony also added a new aspect ratio of 4: 3 (8,448 x 6,336 - 54 megapixels) and an option of 1: 1 (6,336 x 6,336 - 40 megapixels).
Utilizing a high resolution image sensor, the A7R IV also offers an APS-C capture mode, which is equipped with unique autofocus advantages. APS-C mode produces up to 26-megapixel images (6,240 x 4,160) in 3: 2 mode.
Like the Sony A7R Mark II and A7R Mark III cameras before, the A7R IV is equipped with image stabilization. The 5-axis SteadyShot system promises image stabilization of up to 5.5 stops. Apart from stabilizing the shooting which helps when framing the image when using a telephoto lens.
By using Fast Hybrid AF from Sony, which uses auto-focus phase detection and contrast detection, the A7R IV promises to improve performance of auto focus in many ways. The focal plane phase-detection AF system has 567 phase-detection autofocus points and 425 contrast-detection AF points, which are 168 and 170 automatic focus points respectively.
The A7R IV's automatic focus point covers about 99.7 percent of the vertical image area and 74 percent of the horizontal image area when shooting full-frame images. When using the APS-C shooting mode, the automatic focus point covers more than the entire vertical area and almost all horizontal areas, allowing for improved subject tracking, especially when shooting continuously.
In terms of battery life, the A7R IV promises up to 670 still images with a single charge when using the rear view and 530 shots when using the electronic viewfinder. For video, the A7R IV is rated up to 170 minutes of continuous recording when using a monitor.
When needing additional battery life, you can install a new VG-C4EM vertical handle. This handle is capable of accommodating a pair of NP-FZ100 batteries which is useful for doubling battery life, or charging the camera using a cellphone battery via USB Type-C and Multi / Micro USB connectors.
This camera has built-in Wi-Fi (with NFC), which now comes with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band support, Bluetooth version 4.1 (2.4 GHz band) and a new wireless tethering option. A7R IV supports remote control with the new RMT-P1BT wireless system, but via Bluetooth it can.
For cable connections, the camera has a USB Multi / Micro terminal, USB Type-C, micro HDMI (Type-D), a synchronization terminal and a 3.5 mm microphone and headphone terminal. For storage media, A7R IV supports dual UHS-II SD card slots.

The Sony A7R IV can record 4K video (3,840 x 2,160) up to 30 frames per second in the XAVC S and AVCHD video formats. Bit rates are offered up to 100 Mbps in the XAVC S 4K format. While full sensor width recording is available for 4K video, when using Super 35 mode, the camera captures 6K footage and lowers it to 4K.
A7R IV offers a new ability to set the XAVC S. file name prefix. Additional workflow features are also available including Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) image profiles, S-Log 3 for 14-stop dynamic ranges, image profiles, clean HDMI, time codes / user bits, REC controls, Gamma Display Help, zebra functions and more.
For users who demand high-speed video in addition to pure resolution capability, the A7R IV can record Full HD video (1,920 x 1,080) with frame rates ranging from 1 frame per second to 120 fps. This allows up to 5x slow motion videos and 60x fast motion videos.
From the specifications of the Sony A7R IV which underwent many changes, the most impressive thing was the ability to take burst pictures up to 10fps with the best autofocus system. This can be a mirrorless camera recommendation for professional photographers who earn money from photography.
However, you also have to spend enough money to get this best mirrorless camera. For body only, A7R IV is priced at 49 million, that's not including the kit lens.
Sony offers two types of Kit lenses to choose from, the 24-70mm f / 2.8 Kit and the 24-105mm f / 4 Kit. You can choose according to your needs and financial conditions. The emergence of the A7R IV is a new competitor to full-frame mirrorless cameras with large pixels.
