In 2017, Leica introduced CL as a mirrorless camera that has a small and slim body. With a 24.2 megapixel APS-C sensor, 2.36-milion-dot EVF, and mirrorless L mounts, the Leica CL is capable of delivering good, sharp shots.
With a price range of 35 million, Leica has a solid metal body with touch screen LCD and 2.36M-dot EVF. The camera saves its Raw files in the industry standard DNG format, has an ISO range of 100-50000 and shoots up to 10 fps. It can capture 4K / 30p video and offers Wi-Fi to transfer photos to smartphones.
Leica has long been recognized as a brand with stylish premium cameras and lenses. CL has a very classic Leica design. Complete with Leica red dot which is the hallmark of Leica. Speaking of lenses, the Leica CL has a Leica L-mount bayonet, although it can be used with a customized Leica M / R lens in addition to the Leica TL and SL lenses.
The camera has dimensions as wide as 131 millimeters, 78 and a depth of less than 45 millimeters. It weighs 14.2 ounces (403 grams) with the battery installed. Compact enough for interchangeable lens cameras. The top and bottom covers are made of anodized aluminum and the body and front body shells are made using magnesium.
Looking at the front of the camera, the only button that can be found is the lens release. A small self-timer / AF lamp is located next to the Leica badge. At the top of the camera, there are two control buttons with a center button, shutter release button with a power switch around it, hot shoe, dual microphone, and 128 x 58-pixel status LCD that shows aperture, shutter speed, and lighting mode.
On the hot shoe topic, there is no built-in flash but the camera has a maximum flash synchronization of 1 / 180s. There is a centralized 3-inch touch screen LCD monitor, which has 1.04 million dots. The "EyeRes" viewfinder has 2.36 million points. The new viewfinder was developed specifically for the Leica CL camera.
The CL has mechanical and electronic enclosures, which allow a shutter speed range of 30 seconds to 1/25,000 seconds. Mechanical shutter has the fastest shutter speed available 1/8000s, which is quite fast. With a 49 point auto focus detection system, the Leica CL uses the same auto focus system as the Leica TL2.
CL offers brust shots of up to 10 frames per second with a buffer of 33 frames specified when shooting DNG + JPEG images and 140 JPEG frames (JPEG only) at full speed. The shooting speed when the buffer is full will depend on your SD card. The UHS-II standard is supported by a single SD card slot in CL.
Thanks to its Maestro II processor, the Leica CL can record 4K UHD video at 30p. 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) video can be recorded at 60p or 30p and 1280 x 720 (HD) available in 30p. Touch AF is supported and exposure is fully automatic, although exposure compensation is available.
There are also options for strengthening the microphone, wind filter and electronic stabilization. Videos are recorded in MP4 format with stereo audio, each clip is limited to a maximum of 29 minutes, and the maximum file size is 4GB even though CL video can reach multiple files.
Leica CL is equipped with a default Wi-Fi module with 802.11b / g / n standards. With the Leica CL application, you can transfer the Leica CL shots to your smartphone, tablet or computer. Apart from that, you can also control the camera remotely with the application both in shooting and lighting settings.

Unfortunately Leica CL does not have a port. He only has a hot shoe, battery compartment and UHS-II SD card slot. Regarding strength, the Leica CL has a CIPA-rated battery life of less than 220 shots per charge from the BP-DC12 lithium-ion battery pack. The battery is said to be fully charged in about 140 minutes through the special charger that is included.
As a mirrorless APS-C camera that has a small and sleek body the Leica CL is priced quite expensive. For body only, the camera is priced at 35.9 million. Whereas with the lens Kit Vario-Elmar-T 18-56mm f / 3.5-5.6 ASPH of 55.4 million and Kit Elmarit-TL 18 mm f / 2.8 ASPH of 50.7 million.
Leica itself created CL as a mirrorless camera for advanced photographers. So you have to think carefully to buy this camera. Some settings may be difficult for beginners, but for those of you who understand the needs, this can be a great masterpiece.
Leica CL includes various scene modes besides the standard program, aperture priority, shutter speed priority, and manual shooting mode. This scene mode includes Auto, Sports, Portrait, Landscape, Night Portrait, Snow / Beach, Fireworks, Candlelight, Sunset, Digiscoping, Miniature, Panorama and HDR.
