Price and Specifications of Canon Powershot G1X Mark III

The Canon PowerShot G1X III is a high-end compact camera with a 24-megapixel APS-C size sensor. The camera also has a Dual Pixel CMOS AF and a zoom lens F2.8-5.6.6 which is 24-72mm equivalent. This is the latest flagship from Canon for the PowerShot G-series.

The G1X Mark III also has a DIGIC 7 processor, so the camera is able to take continuous shots up to 9 fps. Wireless connectivity such as Wi-Fi and NFC with Bluetooth is also installed. Wi-Fi with Bluetooth connectivity, and promises a level of dust and water resistance. In addition, the Touch & Drag AF feature will facilitate the operation of AF via the touch screen.

Although this is a pocket camera, but the body that is owned is quite great. G1X Mark III is made of materials that are strong against weather, dustproof and waterproof. When using waterproof WP-DC56, the camera is able to dive to a depth of 40 m. However, the price of the Canon PowerShot G1X Mark III is quite expensive at 14 million. The price is worth it for DSLR and mirrorless cameras.

Canon has added their premium G series compact cameras under the name G1X Mark III. This latest PowerShot model presents several improvements to the system, including APS-C sized sensors and Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology. This is the first for the pocket camera category from Canon.

The G1X Mark III is predicted to be the most sophisticated pocket camera designed for professionals. What is quite frustrating on this latest pocket camera is the 24.3 megapixel APS-C sized sensor. The range of ISO G1X Mark III is 100-25,600, same as 80D.

In order for the sensor to work properly, Canon also included Dual Pixel CMOS AF into the camera. The Dual Pixel sensor is the main source of camera autofocus with 80 percent coverage horizontally and vertically, across all frames.

Canon says that the G1X III's auto focus speed is very fast and will rival their latest DSLR and M series cameras. This large APS-C sensor is paired with 24-72mm-eq. f / 2.8-5.6 3x zoom lens that has an integrated 3-stop ND filter.

In addition, the PowerShot G1X Mark III also features Canon's Dual Sensing IS system. This feature works with lens optical image stabilization to achieve 4-stop equality in image stabilization. As a premium pocket camera, the G1X Mark III is made from dust and water resistant materials.

Canon also equipped the camera with a 2.36 million dot EVF Organic LED viewfinder that provides adjustment options. On the back there is a 3.0-inch vari-angle touch LCD monitor which can be tilted. The touch screen LCD makes it possible to knock or draw auto focus for a more intuitive experience in combination with EVF.

In the kitchen section, there is a DIGIC 7 processor which is the same as the EOS M5. This processor allows the G1X III to offer better face detection, better subject and scene detection and better high ISO performance than its predecessor.

The camera can also be turned on quite quickly according to Canon. In single-shot AF mode, the G1X Mark III is capable of taking 9 frames per second. In Servo AF mode, that number drops slightly to 7 frames per second. Despite having high specifications, unfortunately the G1X Mark III does not offer 4K video recording.

However, these shortcomings are covered by a combination of 5-axis digital IS and lenses that will help reduce the effects of camera shake when shooting using a handheld. The G1X Mark III also offers time-lapse mode, which is the same feature commonly used by Canon users on most modern Canon DSLRs.

Canon says that the settings for creating time-lapse modes are intuitive and easy to use and allow you to quickly determine intervals and lighting. Now the G1X Mark III can connect to many smart devices via Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth.

With this feature will provide easy sharing to smartphone devices. Using this wireless feature requires the Canon Camera Connect application, as do other Canon cameras with this wireless feature. For durability, Canon uses NB-13L batteries with a CIPA value of 200 shots per charge. Not a bad value for a pocket camera.

The appearance of the PowerShot G1X Mark III is a big improvement. But as a premium pocket camera, it's still quite underdone. Seeing the camera is still not able to record 4K video, where now there are many pocket cameras that are capable of recording 4K video.

Not to mention the price that is so expensive. You could say this camera has a price that is not much different from DSLR cameras and mirrorless cameras in general.
